News Release June 2002

Court Action by Save Our Suburbs

Dear Members

We are issuing the following press release today:

Save Our Suburbs (SOS) NSW Inc has yesterday commenced action in the Supreme Court challenging the failure by the State Electoral Commissioner to register Save Our Suburbs as a party eligible for the 2003 State election.

SOS lodged an application for registration as a political party with the Commissioner in November 2001. The Commissioner did not register the party because the party did not meet requirements set out by the Commissioner.

SOS President, Dr Tony Recsei, said "We will argue before the court that we complied with all the legislative requirements to be registered as a political party and should have been registered by the Commissioner in time for the deadline for the State Election 2003."

"This case relates to a fundamental point of democracy in our State; the right to register as a political party and have your voice heard at an election.'

"Meanwhile SOS will continue to fight against inappropriate development being forced onto local communities", Dr Recsei concluded.

Tony Recsei
President, Save Our Suburbs (SOS) NSW Inc
