Another Hit in the AFR

Hi SOS Members

The following letter has been published in the Australian Financial Review this morning:

The Australian Financial Review, Friday 5 May 2006, page 77.

Save Our Suburbs studies urban patterns

Your article "All in a sprawl over urban consolidation" (April 27) unfairly labels Save Our Suburbs as a "not-in-my-backyard" reactionary "mob". Far from being merely reactionary, for many years Save Our Suburbs has been critically analysing the policy of urban consolidation in NSW and has been suggesting alternative strategies. Our organisation has attended general seminars on the topic whenever this has been possible and challenged the claims of high-density proponents.

We have become convinced that the gospel of the high-density advocates is false, that the benefits they claim do not happen and that the damaging consequences of their misguided policies are only now becoming evident.

The letter was truncated by the editors (they usually are) but retains most of the thrust that was intended.
