Housing Disasters

Hi SOS Members

Michael Duffy has had another brilliant opinion piece published in today's Sydney Morning Herald entitled Time to put housing industry in order. In this article he says:

"Of all the disasters Carr bequeathed his successor, none has hurt so many people as the wreck of the housing industry. The effects of this have been both economic and social, and Carr deserves full responsibility. There were no external pressures on him to destroy jobs and the quality and affordability of housing: he did it all on his own, partly through sloppy decision making and partly in pursuit of environmental goals, often more symbolic than real, which are shared by few other people. In the process the then premier deprived most of a generation of the chance of living in a freestanding home, of the sort he occupies, with a decent-sized yard. He created a city with some of the least-affordable housing in the world."
